Maliandao Tea Safari

A gastronomical walk through Beijing

The center of Beijing’s tea commerce is located in Maliando Tea Street. During a 2½ hour Tea Tasting Safari you are submerged in Chinese tea culture and learn everything about this rich tradition. How can a drink brewed from leaves coming from misty cliffs validate an age old tradition? For many centuries the Chinese have been cultivating a deep respect and relentless fascination for good tea. The best types of teas come from the most beautiful stretches of the country such as the steep misty cliffs of the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian, the rolling hills from the West Lake in Hangzhou, the wild highlands of Yunnan …We reserve ample time for Maliando Tea Market. The entire process from tasting to purchasing is unmatched and unique in Asia. Here, at the best market for tea in China, more than 3000 tea varieties can be found. Maliandao Tea Street with its numerous tea shops stretches over 1.5 kilometers from Guanganmen Street in the north to Honglian Road in the south. Most of the tea shops are still run by the extended families of the tea farmers from Fujian, Zhejiang and Anhui.  One of the best things about the market is that the tea is 30% to 40% less expensive than other tea found in other areas of the city. As we wander through the tea stands we taste:

o Mild White Peony tea from Anxi
o Iron Goddess of Mercy Oolong tea from Fujian
o Sweet smelling Dragon Well green tea from Hangzhou
o Puer tea from Yunnan, matured for many years like a good wine
o Keemun Black teaDetails
